Evaluation of the Growth and Production of Kiura Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Under Different Shading Conditions in Panama Oeste

The growth and production of Kiura beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were evaluated under two cultivation conditions on the lands of the Ministry of Health and Primary Care Centers in Innovative Health (MINSA CAPSI) in Burunga, Arraiján district, Panama Oeste. Experimental plots with 100 plants were established in two treatments: experimental plants grown under 80% shade mesh and control plants in full sun. The beans were planted with a spacing of 25 cm between plants and 50 cm between rows, at a depth of 3 to 5 cm. Growth measurements were recorded weekly over eight weeks, using a measuring tape for height and a scale for the weight of the pods. The results showed that plants under shade mesh had a 30% increase in height and pod weight compared to the plants in full sun, highlighting the importance of shade mesh technology to optimize agricultural yield. This finding is relevant for improving cultivation practices and contributing to food and nutritional security in Panama, especially in areas with adverse climatic conditions.
