Abstract

A report has been presented regarding the populations of three indigenous regions in the Republic of Panama. The report is based on recent estimates from May 2023 and includes a descriptive statistical analysis of three primary variables: total population, life expectancy at birth, and total dependency ratio “between” 2007-2016. The population dynamics of these regions have been compared to those of the Republic as a whole. The report suggests that the indigenous population will experience significant growth, mainly due to the demographic expansion of the Ngäbe-Buglé people. While life expectancy at birth has improved during the period under consideration, there remains a considerable gap compared to the national total. The global dependency ratio varies significantly between the three regions, and it is suggested that the demographic transition process is still in its early stages. It is recommended that the demographic bonus be utilized for development tasks.
