Consonantal phonotactics of the ngäbere language

The purpose of this qualitative design grounded theory and case study was to develop the phonotactic inventory of consonant sounds in the Ngäbere language using published research on the Ngäbere language and bilingual informants of Ngäbere and Spanish who used their native language in their daily lives and who lived or grew up in the Comarca Ngäbe-Buglé. For data collection, a triangulation of data was used — documentary analysis, field recordings, interview, logbook, and observations— that resulted in five types of corpus to which we applied a reduction of open, axial, selective, and acoustic data analysis to define the results. The phonotactics of the phonemes with their allophones of each consonantal grapheme of the Ngäbere alphabet, together with the syllabic structure, and sonority scale were the results of this study.
