Competencies of medical radiology professionals for the performance of special studies at Dr. Rafael Estévez hospital

Abstract

In this research the competencies of medical radiology professionals performing special studies at Dr. Rafael Estevez hospital. It sought to describe the proper handling of information, humanized treatment and the knowledge of graduates about the special studies carried out, the identification of deficiencies in the handling of contrast media, and verify compliance with radiation protection measures. This research focused on a quantitative research design with a nonexperimental transectional design, the type of studies is descriptive. Resulting in that, in relation to the knowledge of the studies, information management, humane treatment and soft skills, all the responses were positive, above 58% stating that these competencies are met, but in terms of radiological protection it was possible to to show deficiencies since the highest percentages correspond to negative answers as with the use of lead glasses that in 100% of the cases the graduate did not use them. Regarding the proper handling of contrast media, the deficiency found was related to the question what the graduate should do to patients to find out if they are allergic to any medication or food before administering the contrast medium, where 73% of the Respondents said they were not consulted. Therefore, refresher days are necessary for graduates in order to improve the deficiencies found in carrying out special studies.
