Impacts of solid waste on the water source of the Colmón Macaracas forest

Abstract

The purpose of this research project is to determine the impact of solid waste from the open dump located in the Colmón de Macaracas Forest on one of its water sources, "La Quebrada del Vertedero". The social impact of the waste on the community surrounding the protected area will be evaluated. The study is descriptive because it identifies and categorizes the type of solid waste present in the Quebrada del Vertedero and explanatory because it identifies its effects on the protected area. It also describes the opinions of the residents of the Plumas Negras community. The methodology consists of two phases: the categorization of the type of garbage present in the stream and the application of a survey to the "Plumas Negras" community located in the limits and a field observation guide. The data will be processed in Microsoft Word and Excel, obtaining 81% inorganic waste, plastics and others; 19% organic waste such as cloth and animal bones. The social impact caused by the inadequate disposal of organic and inorganic waste from the social impact caused by the inadequate disposal of organic and inorganic waste at the landfill affects the well-being (quality of life) of the community by increasing the levels of flies, mosquitoes, rodents and bad odors. The eighty-one percent of those surveyed consider the landfill to be a danger. The findings are as compelling as the fact that the leachate from the slaughterhouse waste can directly contaminate the water of the creek.
